***Inspired by the darkly inspiring TV series 'The Leftovers'. Memories, loss, remembrance, & longing, all combined with Shamanic overtones of the afterlife. And a Raven to symbolise messages from the unseen world.
"Do you remember still the falling stars
that like swift horses through the heavens raced
and suddenly leaped across the hurdles
of our wishes--do you recall? And we
did make so many!
- Norse Viking tales
"You darkness that I come from, I love you more than all the fires that fence in the world...." (From a poem by Rainer Maria Rilke)
"This place is a dream. Only a sleeper considers it real.
Then death comes like dawn, & you wake up laughing at what you thought was your grief"
Charcoal & gold leaf.
The völvur were referred to by many names. The Old Norse word vǫlva means "wand carrier" or "carrier of a magic staff".
Völur practiced seiðr, spá and galdr, practices which encompassed shamanism, sorcery, prophecy and other forms of indigenous magic.
(Inspired by The Priestess Of Delphi by John Collier).
"Put out my eyes & I can see you still.
Slam my ears too & I can hear you yet.
And without any feet can go to you.
And tongueless I can conjure you at will.
Break off my arms I shall take hold of you. And grasp you with my heart as with a hand.
Arrest my heart, my brain will beat as true and if you set this brain of mine afire, then on my blood stream I yet will carry you. RMR
"I already know the storms, and I'm as restless as the sea. I roll out in waves and fall back upon myself, and throw myself off into the air and am completely alone in the immense storm." -Rainer Maria
7x9" *** "you beloved, who were lost before the beginning, who never came..." Rainer Maria Rilke.
"I wish I could show you, when you are lonely or in darkness, the astonishing light of your own being " ~ Hafiz ~
~Beyond glass gates of dream
In the bottomless mark of mirrors
Wherever I had taken a piece of myself.
A morning glory had sprouted.
Forever pouring into the void of my soul.
And in the sound of it's blossoming
I was forever dying in myself. ~
*Sorab Sepheri *
~Ask no questions of the Moth. In the candle flame of his face I have forgotten all the answers...~ Fahrid Ud Din Attar. ~
stabbed with a spear, offered to Odin, myself to mine own given.
She is the wife of Odin & is the patron of marriage and motherhood.
"The breeze at dawn has secrets to tell you.
Don’t go back to sleep.
You must ask for what you really want.
Don’t go back to sleep.
People are going back and forth across the doorsill
where the two worlds touch.
The door is round and open.
Don’t go back to sleep."
~Poem by Rumi~
